The9, the current operator for the Chinese World of Warcraft is about to lose one of it’s best contracts. The Chinese World of Warcraft is planning on switching operators from The9 to NetEase once the contract ends. NetEase already operates pretty much every other Blizzard game in the country.
The9 is definitely going to be hurting in their wallets, obviously. Losing a major company like Blizzard, World of Warcraft, I’m sure they’re feeling pretty hurt right now to say the least. Just last Summer, Blizzard announced the partnership with NetEase to operate StarCraft II, Warcraft III, and Battle.net in mainland China, so it was only a matter of time until they signed over World of Warcraft.
Supposedly, NetEase is the most stable choice between The9 and NetEase. So I guess it was for the better, but The9 is definitely going to greive the loss. The company released a statement acknowledging that Blizzard would be transitioning.
