Sony seems to be preparing for the idea of digital distribution as seen as how the PSPGo is starting to go for digital distribution rather than UMD’s. But what about the Playstation 3, how does Sony plan on getting the Playstation 3 to work with digital distribution? Microsoft is all for allowing their games to be downloaded via an on demand service, but the Ps3 seems to be facing some difficulty.
Sure some games are allowed to be downloaded, but Sony isn’t fully behind the idea of making a full service for digital distribution. Mainly because the size of their games. They say that it’s not something they planned for. For Microsoft and their Xbox 360, their discs run on a 9-gig media, so the games could be downloaded in a timely manner. However, with Blu-ray, you can put up to 50 gigs on a dual layer disc, so while possible, it’d take a while to download and take up quite a lot of space on your hard drive. So after you manage to download all of that, the question is, do you want to keep all of that on your hard drive?
Their reasoning seems to be good anyway, but the games that don’t take up that much space should be able to be downloaded.
