No One Has Ever “Maxed” a Console

Burnout Paradise
Burnout Paradise

It’s been a rather slow week in terms of video game announcements. But here’s some quick information on the thoughts of the Burnout Dev’s, concerning their thoughts on one maxing out a console with a game. The technical director for Burnout Paradise says that such a claim is proof that you’re not the best.

Richard Parr thinks that those who are pushing the limits of game developments are constantly finding new and innovative things to do, not finding their options increasingly limited. So those who claim to have “maxed” a console with their game or project is just declaring themselves out of ideas.

The Criterion (Burnout Paradise) senior engineer, Alex Fry, says that you’ll always find new things to do. This applies to every game you make, not just every console that is released. The constraints originally in place will be lifted as you figure out new things. He thinks that there isn’t a point in saying that you’ve maxed something out. But what about games like God of War 2, God of War 3, and Uncharted 2? I’m sure those games are pushing it as far as possible, in terms of game development. It wouldn’t be much of a stretch to declare that those games are “maxing” the console. The Uncharted 2 dev team actually says that they’re using 100% of the console, which is maxing it out. Many people have mixed responses to this, but with the reasoning that the Criterion team is using, they seem to be right.

God of War III Scans

God of War III

Some fresh new God of War III scans have been recently published to the internet, and they are looking good. I like how it boasted about it’s use of 100% of the Playstation 3’s power. Saying: “1080p HD + No Loading + Perfect Frame Rate = God of War 3”. The new pics look amazing, the graphics are extremely top notch. Sure the blood may look “meh” and so might the glowing. But the poly count, lighting and animations are amazing.

So far, from the scans, we can tell that there will be no pegasus, no co-op, no multiplayer and no six-axis use. They said that they weren’t interested in the Six-Axis and I don’t blame them, hah. It’s not something really interesting, I think. Also, it may also be worth noting to know that Naughty Dog and Insomniac are helping Santa Monica. Such a beastly team up, if I may say, heh. Also, the scans said that the puzzles have been made easier/shorter so the action could be focused on more. More fighting/less puzzles? Some may like that transition, some may complain that this game will become a button masher though. I personally like what they’re doing with the game. With this game seeing a 2009 release, it will seriously not fall short of anything but amazing. You’re looking at Game of The Year right now, whether it has multiplayer or not…

Check out the scans here.

God of War III

Ahh, the God of War franchise has truly been something epic to behold. Any gamer who hasn’t played the game, really owes it to themselves to start now. The last installment of the franchise is coming, and Game Informer will be having an exclusive look at it, for their subscribers.

It will be a full 10 pages of an exclusive look at content, pictures and video game art. This is going to be a must see, for any Playstation 3 owner. Or even the possible or soon to be Ps3 owners.  Excitement doesn’t quite say enough to describe this.

2009 – 2010: Year of The Playstation 3?

Playstation 3
Playstation 3

We all know how much of a slow start the Playstation 3 had. It is a good system, over all, but it had a low amount of good games. A lot of people only got it to play Metal Gear Solid 4 and Little Big Planet. But it seems as if the Playstation 3 is starting to pick up in games. The Xbox 360 has been going strong, with it’s mass amount of hit games and exclusives. But the Playstation 3 is coming out guns blazing, with God of War 3 and Uncharted 2 announced. Those are two obvious GoTy contenders.

Sure, the Xbox 360 is coming out with some good titles too… I think. But from the release list I’ve seen, there’s nothing exciting. They have Final Fantasy 13, yeah, but that’s a multiplat.  Most of the games to come for the Xbox 360 is multiplatform.  But Playstation 3, on the other hand, is getting Final Fantasy 13 Versus (Another Game of The Year Contender), The Agency (An mmorpg), Killzone 2 (Yet ANOTHER GoTY Contender) and more. The graphics alone on most of those games blow most of the games the Xbox 360 has to offer out of the water.

The hype for God of War 3 is also outstanding. There was an interview with someone, recently, who had a chance to play God of War 3. It  was comparable to a movie experience, according to him. The Graphics were amazing, the attention to detail, the animation, the gameplay. Hint at multiplayer. That game will be nothing short of amazing.

I think the Playstation 3 is guarenteed to have the upcoming years owned. The Xbox 360 has it’s work cut out for it. What do you think? Do you think the Playstation 3 will also own the next couple of years? Also, try not to have any bias towards a system, heh. I have an Xbox 360 myself and I am loving it.
