Activision Blizzard recently announced that it’s popular real time strategy game, StarCraft II: Wings Of Liberty has been officially delayed to early 2010. Though no specific date has been given, they say that it will be in the first half of 2010, which sounds a bit painfully unspecific to die-hard fans of the series.
The supposed reason for Activision Blizzard’s delay of StarCraft II is the relaunching of it’s Battle.net service. It is an online gaming service that is directly incorporated into the games that make use of it, handling the multiplayer tasks such as account creation. The developer noted that it’s taking longer than they once expected to prepare Battle.net for the launch of StarCraft II. They refer to the new Battle.net release as an integral part of the StarCraft II experience, and will play an essential role in the growth of their games. The new iteration of Battle.net will be available early next year.
It’s not surprising to many who’ve been following the StarCraft II news recently. Blizzard hinted at how they felt that they needed at least 4 months of beta testing for the upcoming game. It’s 8 months into the year already, and no beta test has started, so many people expected a delay from the start.
Blizzard intended for a StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty release this year, but I guess things have changed and we’ll have to wait until next year.
